IODINE DEFICIENCY IN DIET LEADS TO GOITRE
During the low levels of T3 and T4 the hormones TRH and TSH are released.
The TSH binds to TSH receptor on basal membrane of Follicular cell and results in the formation of raw materials for thyroid hormone synthesis.
The raw materials can be converted to T3 and T4 only when reaction with iodine is done.
But as the iodine is deficit, so this substances will get accumulated in the colloid .
The T3 and T4 levels will be continuously low in blood which will result in continuous synthesis of raw materials and their accumulation.
Thus, iodine deficiency in diet leads to goitre
